History

The Specialty Physicians Alliance, L.L.C. ("SPA") became a legal entity on October 5, 1994. However the formation of SPA started long before it was legally formed. Several Kansas City area groups began discussion nine months earlier on how the formation of an Alliance could enhance the individual practices. Their combined efforts could improve information systems, perform outcome studies and protocol development, proved comprehensive orthopaedic subspecialty coverage and geographic dispersion throughout the Kansas City metropolitan area. All of these efforts work toward a common goal of providing patients high quality care in a cost effective manner.

There are many advantages when contracting with the SPA, including, but not limited to:

• A commitment to the monitoring and control of utilization.
• A commitment to quality with the development of a quality assurance program which includes:
  • Outcome studies
  • Patient and provider satisfaction surveys
  • Peer review
• Consistent billing or reporting of claims data.
• Comprehensive orthopaedic subspecialty coverage.
• Geographic dispersion with medical offices and hospital affiliations throughout the Kansas City area.

Physicians

SPA physicians include some of the premier Orthopaedic Surgeons in the Kansas City area. The physicians are Board Certified or Eligible with Fellowships in foot and ankle, hand, knee and sports medicine, shoulder and elbow and spine. Rheumatology and Physical Medicine/Rehabilitation are also available through SPA. (See insert for list of physicians, fellowships and special interest of the Orthopaedic Surgeons)

Office and Hospital Locations

SPA has 8 office locations throughout the city. The multiple locations provide easy access to Orthopaedic care for patients where ever they live in the Kansas City metropolitan area. The physicians of SPA are on staff and admit at these hospitals:
