Treatment / Outcome

  • Treatment:

    • Purely symptom dependent as usually self-limiting--don’t treat X-ray changes if no pain
    • Usually have to curtail exacerbating activities until symptoms improve
    • Shoe lifts (1/4 inch) can lessen stress at tendon
    • Can unload unilateral involvement with crutches
    • Long-leg casts with KF and equinus foot placement can be used in severe cases
  • Outcome:

    • Excellent prognosis without residual disability
