Types of lymphedema

  • Acute:

    • mild, transient form
    • occurring within days of surgery
    • resolving within first weeks
  • Painful:

    • occurs 4 to 6 weeks after surgery
    • frequently associated with phlebitis or lymphangitis
  • Erysipeloid:

    • occurs with chronic form after local trauma
