Differential Diagnosis:

• Fracture

  • traumatic
  • insufficiency stress fractures
    • elderly patient with osteoporosis
    • no history of trauma
  • fatigue stress fractures
    • usually athletes/soldiers
    • caused by abnormal muscular stress on bone

• Infection

  • hematogenous spread
  • usually unilateral
  • predisposing history
